Gain real-world insights you can apply to your own projects\, from nature play and active recreation to future-focused park planning and community engagement. \nGreater Sydney Parklands bring together some of Sydney’s most iconic urban parks including Callan Park\, Centennial Parklands\, Fernhill Estate\, Parramatta Park and Western Sydney Parklands. \nCovering 5\,280 hectares and stretching over 27 km\, Western Sydney Parklands is Australia’s largest urban park and ‘Sydney’s biggest backyard.  We will be exploring a small part. \nEveryone will jump on a coach to visit the sites\, starting and finishing at Lizard Log Playground. \nAnd importantly coffee and refreshments will be provided! \n																														 \nKick off the tour at Lizard Log playground\, where you’ll enjoy a light refreshments surrounded by one of Western Sydney’s most unique nature-based play environments. \nThis iconic 15-year-old playground is undergoing a series of refurbishments following a staged masterplan process. Hear how to maintain the vision of nature play whilst dealing with the practical ongoing requirements of maintenance. \nThis vibrant destination blends a nature-themed playground with scenic walking and cycling trails of varying lengths. Hear directly from project contributors including Fiona Robbé of Fiona Robbé Landscape Architects\, alongside Kerrie Davies\, Senior Operations Manager West GSP\, Peter Kapocius\, Manager Renewals and operations\, GSP & Kevin Dodd\, Operations Coordinator\, GSP as they share insights into the vision\, design decisions\, and outcomes behind the upgrade. \n																														 \nFrom there\, we’ll hop on the bus and head to Plough and Harrow; a site currently in the planning phase of its next transformation. This is a valuable opportunity to gain early insight into the research\, strategy\, and community considerations shaping the proposed redevelopment. \nLearn how to skilfully plan and design a playground refurbishment in keeping with current playground expectations\, pressures and wear and tear. What impact have 15 years of use had and how is a refurbishment tackled? \nKerrie Davies and Kevin Dodd from GSP will discuss the plans they have the site and seek some practical feedback from participants on the day! \n																														 \nOur final stop takes us to the M7–M12 Shared User Path This brand-new shared user path was open in March 2026. \nStretching 2.3 kilometres\, the M7–M12 Shared User Path connects Cecil Park to Cecil Hill\, creating a vital link for walkers\, runners and cyclists between the M7 and M12 motorways. This new route improves access to some of the Parklands’ most popular destinations. \nAlong the way\, visitors can enjoy convenient connections to the Wylde Mountain Bike and BMX tracks\, Gabrugal Yana\, public amenities\, and future recreational spaces planned around the Liverpool Offtake Reservoir. \nDelivered in partnership by Transport for NSW and Greater Sydney Parklands\, the project supports the long-term vision set out in the Western Sydney Parklands Southern Parklands Framework.  \nKristine Marshall\, Senior Manager Design & Delivery at Greater Sydney Parklands\, will share insights into the project and what’s next for this exciting precinct.

Hayley specialises in infrastruture projects\, facility planning\, project management and community consultation. \n\n\n\n					 Neil Tredwell – Managing Director at Tredwell Management Services\n						\n																														 \nNeil founded Tredwell in 2003\, since then they have successfully delivered hundreds of sport\, recreation and open space planning projects to communities in every state of Australia. \nTredwell is noted for excellence in project delivery\, reliability and value for money. Their services include – Sport\, Recreation and Open Space Planning – Master Planning – Feasibility and Needs Assessment – Trails – Aquatics – Extreme and Hard to Locate Sports. \n\n\n\n					 Melissa Clarke – Community Engagement Coordinator\, Adelaide Hills Council\n						\n																														 \nMelissa is the Community Engagement Coordinator at Adelaide Hills Council\, with a background in Sport and Recreation Management and experience across community engagement\, open space and recreation planning\, and community development roles in metropolitan Adelaide councils. \n  \nShe is passionate about working with communities to create spaces that encourage community connection and support outdoor activity\, and enjoys the variety her role brings\, especially the opportunity to collaborate with different community groups and council staff on a wide range of projects and initiatives. \n\n\n\n					 Dayle Arblaster – Marketing and Engagement Officer\, City of Mitcham\n						\n																														 \nDayle is a Marketing and Engagement Officer at the City of Mitcham\, working closely with teams across Council to support inclusive and meaningful community participation. With a background in strategic planning\, advocacy and performance reporting\, he brings a collaborative approach to engagement practice. \n  \nHe is passionate about championing community engagement and creating opportunities for people to have a genuine voice in decisions that affect them. Dayle is also the Chair of the City of Mitcham Diversity and Inclusion Working Group and recently co-hosted the Global Community Engagement Day SA event\, reflecting a strong commitment to inclusive and connected communities. \n\n\n\n					 Jarrod Hill – CEO\, Director\, SPORTENG\n						\n																														 \nJarrod has over 17 years’ experience planning\, designing and overseeing construction of Fields of Play across Australia. These facilities include athletics running tracks\, hockey pitches\, football grounds (all codes)\, tennis/netball courts\, general purpose facilities\, etc. \nAs a chartered Civil Engineer Jarrod approaches the Parks and Leisure industry from a slightly different angle with a key eye on design\, longevity and sustainability. \nAfter almost 10 years with global engineering firm Arup\, Jarrod started his company SPORTENG which specialises in the planning\, design and construction phase support for all Fields of Play \n\n\n\n					 Tegan Lewis – Senior Consultant\, URPS\n						\n																														 \nTegan is an expert in development facilitation who knows what carries weight with planning authorities. \nWith extensive experience in evaluating major development projects\, this means that Tegan is details focused\, attuned to political sensitivities\, and compelling – skills honed while in her leadership role with the State Commission Assessment Panel. \nExecutive managers and the Minister’s office have come to trust her judgment. Her experience working with councils has also built strong networks across all levels of government. Tegan knows how to get the most during negotiations on development proposals. An attentive listener and clear communicator who keeps dialogue open until agreement is reached. Applying her networks\, negotiation skills and technical insight to define a clear pathway for your project. \n\n\n\n					 Craig L Grocke (PhD) –  Divisional Head for Sport and Recreation\, City of Salisbury.\n						\n																														 \nCraig is the Divisional Head for Sport and Recreation at the City of Salisbury. Craig’s work covers tourism\, urban and regional planning\, economic development\, and a variety of fields across Leisure Studies and Community Development. We begin with an introduction from Emily\, followed by a deep dive into the world of urban movement with the SA Parkour Association (SAPA). Completed in June 2025 as part of the Ovingham Level Crossing Removal Project\, a new community plaza\, hardcourt sports courts and parkour zone can now all be found under the shade of the Torrens Road Bridge. \n \n\n\n10:40 AM | George Whittle Reserve\nBridging Play and Precision. Just a short stroll (and perhaps a coffee) away lies George Whittle Reserve. This site is a prime example of integrated play design. A skate park with a nature inspired climbing area that encourages play that connects us to how we have evolved to move our bodies through chaotic jungles\, forests and natural environments. \n \n\n\n11:30 AM | Jack Watkins Reserve\nHeritage in Motion. As we head into the City of Port Adelaide Enfield\, we visit Jack Watkins Reserve. This site offers a unique perspective on how regional history and open-space recreation coexist. A $4 million transformation undertaken during 2025 has led to a vibrant and inclusive space for all ages to play\, connect\, and stay active with a railway and train theme as a nod to the history of the area. \n \n\n\n12:40 PM | Hart’s Mill\nIconic Industry Meets Modern Play. Located in the heart of Port Adelaide\, Hart’s Mill is perhaps one of the most recognisable play spaces in the state. Set against the backdrop of the historic flour mill\, this stop showcases how industrial heritage can be repurposed into a world-class\, multi-generational destination. \nBright yellow equipment including a hamster wheel\, spider web climber and seated flying fox echo the universal animal instinct to play\, while large tubular steel words designed to play on reflect the site’s industrial flour milling heritage. \n \n\n\n1:25 PM | Yitpi Yartapuultiku\nCulture\, Connection\, and Lunch. We take an extended stop at Yitpi Yartapuultiku – “Soul of Port Adelaide”. This is a space for reflection and connection to Country. We will explore the site’s cultural significance and indigenous design elements while enjoying a lunch break in this award-winning precinct. \nNature play\, exploration\, imagination and a celebration of Indigenous culture on the banks of the Port River\, this play space offers jumping\, swinging\, sliding\, climbing\, drumming\, water play\, interpretive signage and more. \n \n\n\n2:50 PM | Spad St Reserve\nThe Art of the Flow. Our final site tour brings us to Spad St\, featuring the innovative Flowbars.
