SUMMARY:QLD Leisure Planners Course - Cairns
DESCRIPTION:This course will provide participants with the underpinning skills and knowledge required to be a successful Leisure and Recreation Planner in Australia. The Leisure Planners Course has been designed for those early in their sport and recreation planning journey in the public sector\, or those transitioning into a planning role. The course is delivery by industry professionals with significant expertise and experience in their chosen fields. Specifically\, the course will help participants to: Develop / enhance base level competencies of those who plan facilities in order to meet the organisational needs.Improve the skills and knowledge of current and emerging practitioners\, in line with industry best practice.Strengthen capacity to plan\, design\, coordinate\, organise and manage projects.Provide networking and potential mentoring opportunities for participants to seek advice\, share information and problem solve well after the course has been completed.Provide a high quality\, industry-based course\, that is an extension to formal tertiary / education pathways and work experience.It will be an intensive two-day course where the following topics will be presented in different modules: Leisure and Recreation Planning in the local government context & Resourcing documentation and data for projects Introduction to Leisure and Recreation PlanningIntroduction to strategic planning documentationIndustry challenges and trendsSituation AnalysisGap AnalysisDeveloping facility provisions framework for your organisationInfluences on provision standardsOther provision and planning approaches Planning for projects Project GovernanceWhat is a project / project management?Developing a project planSite analysisPreparing a design brief to inform initial design drawings  PresentersAnand Pillay – CEO\, Parks and Leisure Australia Anand has worked in the sport and recreation industry for the past 24 years.  Prior to taking on his current role as the CEO of Parks and Leisure Australia he enjoyed many opportunities in the public service including being the first Regional Director\, Sport and Recreation for North Queensland\, leading the development of community partnerships for the State and was part of the team that developed Queensland’s first whole of government sport and active recreation strategy. He has previously held sport and recreation planning roles for Brisbane and Townsville City Councils and a leadership position in the Department of Premier and Cabinet’s Economic Policy team. Anand is completing the final stages of a PhD at James Cook University investigating the benefits and quantifying the value of sport and recreation facilities.  He was a member of the inaugural Discover Sport board at James Cook University\, a former Australian representative on the Board of World Urban Parks and a Parks and Leisure Australia National Board member. Anand has a passion for understanding how physical activity can provide a platform for equity\, health and social connection. Tracey Wilson – Owner-Director Working VisionsTracey is an advisor to government\, business\, and non-government organisations\, providing services across Australasia focussing on: sustainable developmentstakeholder and community engagement\, including in complex projectssystems thinking collective impactstrategic planningproject governance and planningpolicy and program evaluation.Tracey has worked with various local governments on open space\, facilities\, sport and recreation and master planning projects across Queensland. She was a guest speaker at a PLA Qld State conference on the Gold Coast.  Tracey is a Fellow of the International Association for Public Participation (IAP2)\, and holds a Master of Sustainable Development. She has won several awards\, including the Inaugural IAP2 UNESCO International Sustainable Development in Community Engagement Award and the IAP2 Core Values Awards Indigenous Project of the Year.
