Our next series of playspace tours commence in time for SPRING. Join us as we travel to the north eastern corridor to find out what makes a good playspace. This fully guided technical tour features six playspaces including the 2018 PLAWA Playspace of the Year (over $500k), Jungle Park. You will hear from project managers, designers, landscape architects and builders about what worked and the obstacles they overcame and equipped with the project questionnaire for each site. Join us in this fantastic opportunity to share ideas with some of WA's most creative, responsive, practical and risk aware play space practitioners! Don't forget spaces are limited and these tours regularly sell out. So book early to avoid disappointment.

Wayne Stuart, Senior Facilities Planner | City of Swan

Wayne works at the City of Swan as a Senior Facilities Planner, where he blends the roles strategic and asset planning for community infrastructure within the City. Working as a part of the Asset Management team, he uses the learnings and range of experiences of many to plan and provide essential infrastructure for the community. In recognising the benefits of physical activity, social wellbeing and connectivity, the City has recently developed several documents that help determine the optimal mix of community infrastructure throughout the City, whilst aiming to optimise the management of the City's assets.

John Tuzee, Director | Plan E

John is the founding Director of Plan E, which was established in 1996. John has been a practicing Landscape Architect since 1980 in Australia and overseas. His experience in both private and government sector work includes a broad range of Landscape Architecture projects, particularly landscape planning and design related to the land development sector, ranging from urban design focused new town developments to environmental restoration projects. John's reputation in his profession was recognised in 2013 when he was made a Fellow of the Institute of Landscape Architects.

Peta-Maree Ashford, Principle Landscape Architect & Director | Emerge Associates

Peta-Maree Ashford is a Principal Landscape Architect, Director and manager of the Emerge Associates Landscape Architectural Business. Her 18+ years of experience includes numerous metro and regional projects such as Morawa Town Centre Revitalisation, Meekatharra Women's Refuge and Pegasus Park in the City of Swan. Her passion, innovation and attention to detail, combined with her understanding of the technical aspects and practicalities of landscape construction, has culminated in the successful design and subsequent implementation of numerous award winning, urban, regional and greenfield projects in Western Australia. Her professional practice and leadership saw her acknowledged with a Landscape Architectural Fellowship by her institute in 2017. More recently Peta-Maree was elected onto the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) National Board. As part of the AILA Board, she will provide a Western Australian conduit to a national platform.

Will Gumbley, Senior Landscape Architect | EPCAD

Will has seven years of experience across NZ and Western Australia, with current role as Senior Landscape Architect / Urban Designer at EPCAD. Some of Will's most recent work includes Eden Beach, Golden Bay and Jindowie which feature significant custom designed play spaces.

Karen Lowndes, Director | EPCAD

Kären has over 24 years landscape architectural experience and is recognised as driving innovative design solutions and creating valued community assets. She has a wide range of experience from large scale masterplanning through to detailed design and delivery in relation to residential communities, habitat creation, public parks, commercial precincts, leisure and hotel developments, business and science parks. Starting her career in England, Kären has worked on projects throughout the UK, Europe, the Middle East and most Australian cities, many of which have attained industry accolades. Her early foundations in fine art and continuing interest in collaborations with artists and sculptors has enriched our work and the places we create. Working in many different countries, cultures and climates, Kären has developed a deep understanding of sense of place, an ability to capture the values of places and interpret these in environmentally and socially responsive designs. She also has an acknowledged understanding of water harvesting and drainage management and its successful integration into landscape elements in both rural and urban areas.

Simon Shaw, Project Manager | Landscape Australia (part of the Total Eden Group)

Simon has been with Landscape Australia for 17years. He started in the role of casual labourer, becoming a full time staff memeber a few years later and moved into the maintenance division becoming the Maintenance Manager in 2009. In 2012 Simon moved into his current role of Project Manager. Some of Simon's career highlights include working on projects such as the $1.9M Annie's Landing Western Entry with Architects Plan E; $750K Trinity Linear POS with Architect Plan E; $1.5M Whiteman Edge The Common POS with Architect EPCAD; and currently working on Amberton Estate with Architect Emerge Associates with the project valued at over $9M. As a leader within Landscape Australia's team, he is respected and well liked for his work ethic, strong working relationships both internally and externally to Landscape Australia, his passion for landscaping and the support and respect he shows to all around him.
