The Smart Regional Spaces project was developed through a collaborative research partnership with Lithgow, Parkes and Armidale Regional Councils. These partnerships helped shape practical, on-the-ground tools that respond directly to the needs of local government professionals managing and monitoring public spaces across regional Australia. The state government partner was Regional NSW.

Nancy Marshall is currently an Associate Professor at The University of Sydney. Before coming an academic 20 years ago, Nancy worked as a parks planner in a local council in Canada. Her research and practice focus on people and place, with a particular concentration on re-imagining smart cities and rural areas, redesigning parks and plazas, and rethinking community engagement.
