What great afternoon at Casuarina Aquatic & Leisure Centre attended by around 30 members of the aquatics & parks industry across the Darwin region.
After hearing an update from Parks & Leisure Australia CEO Anand Pillay, an insightful tour and discussion followed, where we explored the transformation of this facility—from the least visited of the City of Darwin’s three pools to an award-winning community hub that now attracts the highest visitation.
The session provided valuable insights into the project’s journey, including the design and construction challenges, innovative use of 3D modelling for tree pit placement (resulting in thriving, established trees), and the operational considerations of integrating commercial spaces into the facility.
The site walk gave everyone a real appreciation for the scale of the development, showcasing improved accessibility, the modern plant room, and the impressive engineering and construction methodology behind the facility’s distinctive shade structures. We also heard about the ongoing commitment to enhancing patron amenity and accessibility as the precinct continues to evolve.
