The Outdoor play guide for Victorian children’s services provides information about the planning, design and maintenance of outdoor play spaces in early childhood settings in Victoria. It has been developed to inform decision making in the development of outdoor play spaces, and in the modification and upgrading of existing spaces. The guide provides links to existing legislation and standards, and focuses on practical information and considerations for the creation of inviting physical environments that will enhance the play experiences of young children. The Outdoor play guide for Victorian children’s services has been developed as a resource for Victorian children’s services that provide care and education for children and are licensed and regulated under the Children’s Services Act 1996 (see Legislative requirements). While programming examples are provided, the guide is not a programming resource; alternative reference materials should be used to inform programming in early childhood settings.
