Elder Street South Reserve

The recently completed Elder Street South Reserve features play areas, a fitness station, recreational facilities, walking/cycling tracks, landscaped gardens, and more! The inviting open space provides for a wide range of outdoor activities for the local community.
Completion of this reserve sees the former landfill site become yet another link in Kingston’s long-awaited ‘Chain of Parks.’
Features of the new park include:
• activity zone with outdoor exercise equipment
• multi-functional sports court
• ‘adventure woodland’ nature play area
• native grassland and grassy woodlands
• shared path network for pedestrians and cyclists
• open lawn areas
• picnic areas, seating and shelter

Gerry Green Reserve

The Gerry Green Reserve, formerly the Parkdale Recreation Reserve, has been open since 1925. Across its long history, the reserve has been a focal point for the community hosting cricket, football, cycling, and also annual fundraising events, gymkhana days, and the Parkdale Gift running races.Â
A recent transformation of the Cliff Sambell Pavilion was completed in 2018, with the 50-year-old pavilion and surrounding site updated to provide new sporting amenities, upgrades to female and male change rooms, gym, a larger social area, function space and additional cool rooms.
In addition to the sporting facilities, there is a large landscaped playground, with many wooden structures offering slides, climbing wall, tunnel, ladder and pole as well as a big sand pit with diggers, swings, see saw and a horse springer.
Mentone Historic Station and Gardens

The dangerous and congested level crossing at Balcombe Road, Mentone was removed in 2020 and the new Mentone Station opened in July 2020. The existing heritage-listed station can be found as part of a new ‘heritage bridge’ over the rail line, with the station gardens updated to include more green spaces and wider paths, with ramps and handrails to improve access for all community members.
The project also included more than 3km of walking and cycling paths connecting the Mentone and Cheltenham station precincts, improved lighting, accessibility and car parking.

The Melbourne Park Managers Forum (MPMF) is an informal group of park managers and senior management staff from Melbourne Metropolitan LGAs. The Network aims to meet a minimum twice per year at events hosted by a council parks department to discuss issues and share ideas relating to parks planning, management and operations.Â
Membership excludes non-council staff, such as representatives from industry suppliers and consultants.Â
