Leisure and Recreation Planning Course 2024
Leisure and recreation planning is the strategic discipline of planning for optimum outcomes from community participation in leisure and recreation. This involves consideration of current and future spaces, facilities, demographics, social and cultural trends. The objective is to provide adequate facilities that are economically, environmentally and socially viable for the long term.
A Leisure and Recreation Planner is responsible for identifying and reviewing planning, design and development of leisure and recreational spaces and facilities, and how needs of community are addressed by them. A leisure and recreation planner has a range of skills including, but not limited to urban design, regional and urban planning, corporate strategic planning, asset management, recreation programming and events management.
The nuances of each local government mean that a Leisure and Recreation Planner has a broad remit of roles and responsibilities. It is intended that this course will support new (and existing) Leisure and Recreation Planners.
