Participation in Exercise, Recreation and Sport (2007-2010)

The ERASS collected information on the frequency, duration, nature and type of activities participated in by persons aged 15 years and over for exercise, recreation or sport during the 12 months prior to interview. Participation means active ‘playing’ participation, and does not include coaching, refereeing, being a spectator or activities related to work, household chores or gardening duties. The ERASS annual report publications present information regarding the:
– frequency of participation in organised and non-organised physical activity for exercise, recreation and sport;
– duration of participation in organised and non-organised physical activity for exercise, recreation and sport;
– type of participation in physical activity for exercise, recreation and sport; and
– trends in participation over time
The ERASS ceased at the end of 2010. Ongoing national sport and recreation statistics is being collected by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), and from 2011 is being co-funded by the ABS and the Committee of Australian Sport and Recreation Officials (CASRO).
