In June 2006 ROSS Planning Pty Ltd was engaged to undertake the Gatton Shire Sport and Recreation Needs Study. Gatton Shire Council needed to update the existing plan, completed in 2000, as it was near the end of its life.
Gatton Shire’s 2005 population was estimated at approximately 16,514. One of the challenges for Gatton Shire will be to accommodate an extra 5,298 people in the next 20 years. The rate of growth, whilst manageable, will require careful planning to ensure that the enhanced lifestyle the Shire is striving to achieve and maintain is realised.
Gatton Shire was incorporated into Lockyer Valley Regional Council after this report was prepared.
