This ambitious project has triumphantly delivered high-quality open spaces that cater to the diverse needs and preferences of Bentley residents, marking a significant enhancement to the community's recreational and communal landscape.

The Summer Lovin initiative addressed one of the City of Bunbury’s priority area of “supporting more community driven events that activate the CBD”, by partnering with community and businesses to deliver events that increase pride and a sense of belonging in the community and promotes Bunbury as a hub of culture and creativity.
City of Gosnells
The Southern and Canning Rivers provide vital ecosystem services. With much riparian vegetation along the rivers being degraded, restoration is key. This project is the first stage in restoring 10.3ha of riparian vegetation along the Southern River where it meets the Canning. When the project started, 80% of the site was in a degraded state, full of invasive weeds, and low cover and diversity of native species. Through significant weed control and revegetation works, weed cover has been greatly reduced across the site, and 2ha transformed from 100% Arum Lily to native sedgeland.

The Stirk Park Master Plan, initiated in 2016, envisioned vibrant, inclusive play spaces. Through collaborative efforts between the community, the City of Kalamunda and expert designers, this vision came to life delivering dynamic play spaces for all abilities and genders while fostering intergenerational connections. The innovative approach to design and engagement ensured that diverse views were incorporated, resulting in cohesive play spaces that reflect the unique identity of Kalamunda.

The City of Cockburn & SpacetoCo are delighted to share this joint entry for the PLA Awards of Excellence 2024. The results of our partnership have seen City bookings grow by 25% whilst also achieving a 62% reduction in customer calls to the City’s recreation team. All this has been accomplished in the first 12 months. Our collaboration has seen a tangible return on the vision for provisioning community facilities in the first place. Achieving more bookings whilst reducing admin time makes this a worthy entry of innovation for the industry in delivering community benefit through facility use.

It may not be high design but it is truly an product of community engagement at all levels and throughout its creation.

The JD Hardie Youth and Community Hub (JDHYCH) project is the redevelopment of Port Hedland’s premier Youth and Community Facility and it represents the Council’s vision for supporting the growth, development of our Youth in the community. The Albany Youth Challenge Park boasts one of the largest dedicated combined pump, jump and skate facilities in Australia. Designed and built to attract and engage a variety of user ages and abilities, which fell between the gaps in the structured and indoor sports domain, this play space has delivered on the City of Albany’s mission to create an inclusive and safe space for all youth in Albany.
