Rangers’ Newsletters – Queensland

We have been fortunate to obtain a folder of scans of a series of Newsletters for and about Queensland’s Ranger Service. AMong many other items of valuable information, the series traces staff responses to organisational restructures.

QPWS officer Vic Bushing wrote the following explanation as a “Read this first”.

“Notes for Version 08

“The accompanying .pdf files are derived from a variety of official and unofficial publications relating to Queensland’s National Parks. The current collection is comprised mainly of documents from the period 1960 – 1989. There is however one notable document from 1950. A complete list of included files and brief details can be found in the file Scan Info8.xls

To date the agency has taken its history very lightly and it is only through the efforts of a small number of long serving staff that this collection of material has been possible to establish. Without the interest and enthusiasm of people such as Don Marshall, Peter Ogilvie, Tim Moore, Tim Boyle and others, many of these documents would have forever been lost.

The quality and size of the files vary as the work has been done on a variety of scanners and computers over several years. In addition some of the original documents were difficult to scan due to fading or darkening with age as well as the types of paper used.

In most instances the documents were scanned directly and saved as tiff files. Some of the large format originals such as Ringtail were photocopied at reduced size and the copies then scanned. Some of the maps were scanned directly in sections then reassembled using PaintShop Pro. The images were then enhanced as far as possible and subsequently used to create pdf files. In a very small number of instances the images had to be adjusted where the original was of such poor quality it became illegible when photocopied or scanned

If you notice any errors or have other documents that could be scanned and included please contact me.

Enjoy. / Cheers
