We are delighted to announce the appointment of our new Advisory Chair, John Tower.
John brings with him over 40 years of experience in the leisure, recreation and sport industry, with a particular interest in community leisure and recreation participation and the delivery of community leisure and recreation services.
Many of you may already know John as he has been a committed volunteer for PLA for many years. We are thrilled to have him take on this new role as we know he will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Advisory board.
As Chair, John will provide strategic guidance and support to the PLA National board. He will also work closely with both the board and the advisory committee to ensure that the PLA remains relevant and responsive to the needs of the industry.

For those who are not familiar with Dr. John Tower, we would like to share some information about him. He is an Honorary Research Fellow in Victoria University’s Institute of Health and Sport, co-chair of the World Leisure Organisation’s Leisure Management Special Interest Group, life member of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Leisure Studies, Manager of Research for leisure consulting company, Bon Leisure, and Director of his own business, JRT Leisure.
Dr. Tower’s research has focused on leisure management and how it can be improved to benefit community leisure, recreation and sport experiences. He has co-authored two books and has delivered over 100 presentations and workshops on leisure management topics around the world, including seven presentations in China. His most recent research has focused on understanding the public value that is accrued from participation in aquatic and recreation centres’ programs, facilities, and services.
