Data in the Park – Using Sensors in Green Spaces
Join staff from the City of Melbourne to explore their Data in the Park Program, which won the Parks and Leisure Australia (Vic/Tas) Best Use of Technology Award for 2023.
City of Melbourne’s Data in the Park Program
Data in the Park is an ongoing City of Melbourne program using sensors and other smart devices to test how to best monitor use and activity in parks, playgrounds and gardens across the city. These parks have been transformed into ‘smart parks’: open spaces that can express their environments and how they’re used through technology and captured data.
This presentation will share some key insights from four active ‘smart’ parks in the City of Melbourne and share learnings to help other parks and leisure professionals undertake similar projects.
About the Awards
Each year, Parks and Leisure Australia acknowledges excellence in our industry through its prestigious Awards of Excellence. These annual awards recognise and celebrate the outstanding initiatives and innovative efforts of ‘the people behind the places’ which promote good use of leisure time for a number of social, environmental and economic benefits to the community. The Best Use of Technology Award acknowledges outstanding and innovative achievement in the area of technology application and how that application has benefited the industry.
