This conference paper investigates the role of sustainable agriculture in the rapidly developing Gold Coast region. This paper will aim to give some pointers for discussion on community structure, community process, and community development, a subject which is currently undergoing a welcome resurgence of interest. The paper will also identify some of the needs that must be met if people are to enjoy their community life. It delves into the three major issues that must be addressed to sustain agriculture and fisheries. These include: economic viability of primary industries and production units, stability of the resources required for agricultural and marine production, and the impact of agriculture on the environment.
