The City of Port Phillip is currently Melbourne’s most densely populated municipality. It has more than twice the population density of the metropolitan Melbourne average and is experiencing a rapid increase in the number of people living in apartments and units. Port Phillip is unique in comparison to other inner Melbourne council as it includes both an international freight and recreational port in addition to other travel modes. This Strategy will deliver a step change in the way we approach some of our most pressing challenges, such as longer peak travel periods, more unreliable and longer travel times throughout the day and week, and impacts on the safety and efficiency of modes such as public transport and bike riding, from increased vehicles. The Strategy is to deliver changes to our city’s transport network, streets and places to cater for our growing community. The Strategy also aims to increase the range of healthy, safe, connected and convenient walking and bike riding choices.
