The purpose of the Open Space Guidelines is to inform the development, design and management of open spaces within the City of Playford. The Guidelines have been developed in conjunction with the Open Space Strategy 2018. The Guidelines aim for quality and innovative outcomes within Council’s open spaces but are not intended to be applied as strict standards. They form part of a suite of documents that influence the provision, siting, design, development and management of open space within the City. Open space refers to land that is owned or under the care and control of Council and is provided for the benefit of the community. Open space is land that is undeveloped or ‘open’ in nature and provides for informal and organised recreation opportunities. It also includes land that has low recreation function but possesses an environmental value. This document focuses on open spaces used for informal recreation uses. The Playford Sportsgrounds Directions Study (2014) is the primary document that guides the establishment and design of formal sports facilities.
